Holy Redeemer School achieves honors
I am very pleased to announce that Holy Redeemer School has been recognized by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia as a 2021 Archdiocesan School of Distinguished Instruction.
This was determined by analyzing standardized test scores in two areas: Growth and Exceeding Potential. Our school achieved very high scores in both areas.
Our congratulations and thanks go out to the teachers, students and parents for your part in achieving this distinction, especially in light of all the challenges presented by COVID19”.

Holy Redeemer School is recognized by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Education as one of 7 Philadelphia County elementary schools as 2021 Archdiocesan Schools of Distinguished Instruction for both Growth and for Exceeding Potential. If you include the 5 county region of Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware counties, Holy Redeemer School is one of 23 schools to be so recognized. See link.
Congratulations to the students, teachers, parents, and Dr. Cancelliere and Ms. Leung for this achievement especially in light of the challenges brought on by the pandemic.

Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Church and School was founded in 1941 by Cardinal Dennis Dougherty as a mission and outreach to the Chinese community. Holy Redeemer is unique in US Catholic history as the first Catholic Church built for Chinese people. Also, unlike most Catholic Churches it was not built for Catholics, but as an outreach to a mostly non Catholic Asian American community.
Holy Redeemer School offers kindergarten through 8th grade education for about 280 students, mostly from low income immigrant families. Only three of these 280 students come from Catholic families; likewise Holy Redeemer's programs serve mostly children and adults who are not members of Holy Redeemer Church. Holy Redeemer provides recreation, tutoring and youth services to hundreds of children, both from the school and from the neighborhood. Holy Redeemer offers a playground and gym to all the children of the community with supervised recreation programs. Our after school tutoring and enrichment programs are available to all children in the community, including public school children. Holy Redeemer also offers English, computer and literacy classes for adults.
For 65 years Holy Redeemer School has educated children of immigrant families. Most of our children speak English as a second language. The large majority of our children come from low income families. Yet our school produces graduates who attend the best high schools in Philadelphia and who usually go on to college and a successful career. The success of our students is the best advertisement for our school.
We educate about 260 children in grades kindergarten through eight. Not only is our school a superior institution of learning, we also create a happy "family like" environment. Our children love their school and our graduates tell us that they remember their elementary school days fondly.
Holy Redeemer School recently received full accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, quite an achievement for an inner city Catholic school with very limited resources. It is a testament to the hard work of our faculty and our students and parents.
Holy Redeemer School offers a quality education for an affordable tuition. Our tuition is lower than the average for Philadelphia Catholic elementary schools. We are able to serve the children in our school because of generous benefactors who supplement with their donations what the parents can pay for tuition.
